In June 2013 we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the opening of our Arlpwe Art Gallery here in Ali Curung. Day one kicked off with a community BBQ held in the recreation grounds here in Ali Curung. The highlight of the evening was Psycus Circus’s performance of the fire juggling. The second day of the Traditional Dance Festival started with a hip hop competition for the children. During this time the ladies had the kangaroo tail cook ups going, damper making, and great family atmosphere. Welcome to country was conducted by senior elder Mr. Donald Thompson, and the Hon. Gerry McCarthy, member for the Barkly also spoke. The dancing then begun formally and went on till late. The last day of the festival was full of fun and games for the children. There were kicking competitions and basket-ball throwing competitions. We had the traditional spear throwing and the prizes (fruit trays and meat trays) were donated by the outback store at Ali Curung. This event was a very positive time for the community and will be held again in July 2014.
