Established in 1987, Warlayirti Artists is located in Wirrimanu (Balgo Community) on the edges of the Tanami and Great Sandy deserts, 300 km south of Halls Creek in WA. The art centre represents some 200 contemporary artists, including renowned artists Helicopter Tjungurrayi, Imelda Guguman and Theresa Nowee.
Warlayirti Artists is a multifunctional space with artists’ studios, large galleries, a cultural centre/keeping place, an archive of national significance, a professional recording studio and an outdoor venue for community events. The artists live in Wirrimanu, Kururrungku and Mulan and their art is charged by the cultural diversity of the seven languages of the region.
The Art Centre Manager will work closely with the Warlayirti Artists board of directors to lead the art centre, enabling good governance and business practices while building on the art centre’s artistic excellence. The role is responsible for operational and strategic aspects of the art centre, including governance and planning, sales and marketing, human resources, and finance and funding.
A proven record of positive artistic, social and economic impact, good business acumen, knowledge of Aboriginal art and its markets, as well as hands-on studio experience is essential. The position also requires a capacity to work effectively across cultures and a genuine commitment to Indigenous self-determination. Previous experience in a similar role will be highly regarded but is not essential.
The salary is $65,000 (cash component) and competitive benefits and allowances are offered.
