Celebrating the rich culture and complexity of artist’s living and working on country and launching online Monday 1st November 2021 from 9am,(ACST) Art Centres on Screen (ACoS) is a collection of short films produced by Desart in collaboration with our western desert art centres.
Be in the virtual presence of outstanding artists such as Reggie Uluru and Judy Yuka Trigger of Walkatjara Arts, in Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park, George Tjungurrayi and Matthew Tjapangati, of Kintore, Mantua Nangala, Yukultji and Nanyuma Napaganati of Kiwirrkura. From Irrunytju on the Ngaanyatjarra lands join traditional owners, Norma Bryant and Eva Baker as they tell the Minyma Kutjara Story, learn of the sacred Illurpa site from Tjawina Roberts and mother and daughter Rene and Maureen Nelson and their many car journeys.
This collection of stories extends a wealth of lived experience, reflections on the creative process, cautionary tales involving cars, a large-scale collaborative work by the senior women of Kintore, and a generous sense of joy and belonging. Historically there is an eye-opening account through Noreen Parker’s eyes and the retelling of her family experience and the effects of the second bomb test in Maralinga; a revisiting of the landmark Uluru handback with Reggie Uluru. As well as animations from Tangentyere & Yarrenyty Arltere Artists. While Mervyn Rubuntja and Hubert Pareroultja of Many Hands ruminate on winning the Wandjuk Marika Memorial 3D Award at this years NATSIAA!
Following the program of films, the online MarketPlace is a chance to purchase works from these artists and more emerging and established from across the desert. Representing the many cultural groups of the regions, the MarketPlace will showcase a wide range of styles and mediums including Tjanpi sculptures, ceramic pots, paintings on canvas, works on paper as well as products and merchandise.
Be a part of this exchange from the desert with 100% of the profits going directly to supporting artists, their families, and communities.
