Julie Pwerl Beasley

Julie Pwerl Beasley lives in Wutunugurra (Epenarra), where she is employed by Barkly Regional Arts as the local arts worker. She has been involved in the development of arts in the region for decades, first learning to paint in the early 2000s alongside her mother Carol Beasley. Julie’s inspirations as an artist are diverse, ranging from traditional cultural stories, animals and plants of the Wutunugurra region, natural landscapes, and elements of modern life such as planes, bores, and the ubiquitous 4WD.

Artist statement

This is bush flowers and bush medicine seeds. The bush medicine grows up from the seeds that fall. This is the story that I keep painting. Bush medicine is special, we use it to drink and wash ourselves, it is good, it makes us good.
