Shanna Napanangka Williams
Shanna Napanangka Williams was born in 1988 and grew up in Yuendumu, located 290km north-west of Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Shanna has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists since 2022 and is the great granddaughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (dec) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (dec), two of the founding artists of the art centre. Shanna paints her father’s Jukurrpa stories, which relate directly to her land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it. These stories were passed down to her by her father and her great grandfather.
This sculpture reflects the artist’s observations, interactions and experiences while working in the Warlukurlangu art centre, reflecting the space as one of family gatherings and artistic experimentation.
