Fabian Brown was born in Mparntwe. He grew up in Alekarenge and has both Warumungu and Walpiri family connections. He started sketching at a young age when he was inspired by his elder brother, who was also a talented painter. His work references traditional, ancient, and modern histories, which come together in a visual language of deep imagining in his paintings. Fabian is a key member of the Tennant Creek Brio artist collective.
I do contemporary paintings. Gotta look forward, look forward to what you’re doing, gotta be excited. Contemporary ones, they a bit strange – very different to traditional ones – we are in the middle of it, I’m in the middle, the guys are in the middle – between traditional and contemporary.
