Vanessa Inkamala
Vanessa Inkamala was born in 1968 at Ntaria (Hermannsburg), a mission established by German Lutheran missionaries at the end of the 19th century. Vanessa’s grandmother’s brother is Albert Namatjira. Vanessa lives in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and paints in the watercolour tradition. She paints the landscape of her ancestors, which is the country she belongs to.
Artist statement
It is at the back of Glen Helen. Kwaritnama river runs through, flowing. It belongs to my family, the Inkamala.
It is all for us from Glen Helen to Mt Sonder. That is where Tjoritja comes all the way.
The last rain made the river runs through all the way to the Finke River. It feels good to see the river flooding.
