Jennifer Nelson Nakamarra was born at Alekarenge (Ali Curung) and went to school there before attending Yirara College in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). When she was young her grandmother taught her how to make necklaces and bangles out of beans and Ininti seeds. Jennifer has been painting on canvas and painting Jurkurrpa since 2003.
This is my father’s Dreaming, and mine. White, brown and yellow bush seed, low growing little bush. Gathering up the seed in the coolamon, clean the seeds, make the dirt go round, then get soakage water, fill them on the seeds in the coolamon. Them old ladies ground them now, they make damper now, burn down the woods first, really hot ground, hot sand! Put them on the hot ground, put the hot ground back on the damper, and they wait.
