Shirley Yoomarie
Shirley Yoomarie grew up at Sturt Creek then was taken away to old Balgo Mission and has lived across Balgo, Mulan, and Billiluna all her life. Shirley has been painting from an early age at the art centre in Balgo and Mulan. Shirley depicts stories of Country and describes themes about bush foods (bush potatoes and bush tomatoes).
Artist statement
Shirley Yoomarie has painted some of the country located close to her home or Mulan, west of Balgo. The central motif depicts Sturt Creek, as it flows south-west into Lake Gregory. Shirley has painted the changing colours of Sturt Creek, of the landscape and water. It runs from dry grasses of yellow and red, with milky water, to bush flowers and medicine which line the blue clear water.
